PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

Dr. Arthur F. Coli is a Cum Laude graduate of Upstate Medical University. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Upstate and additional fellowship training in diseases and surgery of the cornea at Cornea Consultants of Indiana. Dr. Coli has been a practicing ophthalmologist and corneal specialist since 1991. He is Clinical Assistant Professor at Upstate Medical University and is regularly involved in training ophthalmology residents and medical students.

Dr. Coli lives in Syracuse. He graduated from medical school here and did his residency in ophthalmology here. Since Dr. Coli expects to spend his professional career in Syracuse, his reputation is of utmost importance to him. This means that he will be performing all preoperative testing and follow up examinations and will be available to answer questions and address concerns. He is only a phone call away.

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

Dr. John J. Costello, Jr. grew up in Oneida, graduated from St. Lawrence University and earned his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Costello returned to central New York in 1995 after completing his residency in Ophthalmology at Doctors Hospital/Ohio University in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Costello has received additional specialized training at Harvard University’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Ohio State University. He is board certified in Ophthalmology and has a clinical faculty appointment at Upstate Medical University where he is involved with the training of ophthalmology residents.

He and his brother, Dr. Patrick Costello, make up the practice of Costello Eye Physicians and Surgeons with offices in Oneida, Hamilton, Ilion, New Hartford, and Rome.

REFRACTIVE EXPERIENCE

Dr. Costello has extensive experience on multiple lasers used during LASIK surgery, including the Bausch & Lomb 217Z laser, a top-rated excimer laser according to the FDA.

Dr. Costello is one of the only ophthalmologists in Upstate New York trained and performing implantation of the STAAR Vision Implantable Collamer Lens.(ICL). This is a viable option for many who may not be candidates for PRK or LASIK. Dr. Costello will educate a candidate on all of their refractive options, and help them decide which is best for them as an individual patient. He treats everyone as a valued patient, not just a number.

Dr. Costello is a pioneer in refractive surgery in the Mohawk Valley. Dr. Costello has been performing laser vision correction surgery as well as cataract and other types of eye surgery since 1995. Prior to the FDA approval of the Excimer Laser, he performed radial keratotomy refractive surgery.

Dr. Spitzer is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who completed his residency in Ophthalmology at SUNY Upstate Medical University . He performed a fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Cornea Consultations of Albany associated with Albany Medical Center . In 2006, Dr. Spitzer joined Eye Consultants of Syracuse and specializes in routine and complex cataract surgery including multi-focal intraocular lenses, cutting edge corneal transplant surgery, and laser vision correction. He is active in training ophthalmology residents at Upstate Medical University and the VA hospital.

REFRACTIVE EXPERIENCE

Dr. Spitzer was part of a busy refractive practice during his fellowship where he was involved in numerous laser procedures including complex surgeries. He has experience using the VISX and Technolas lasers. He performs LASIK, epi-lasik, PRK, and PTK laser procedures. He also implants multi-focal intraocular lenses after cataract surgery. Since joining Eye Consultants of Syracuse, Dr. Spitzer has reinvigorated its laser surgery section and has enjoyed superior results.

PROFESSIONAL HISTORY

Dr. Weisenthal is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and Surgeon, specializing in corneal and anterior segment surgery. He has been performing Small Incision Cataract Surgery, Corneal Transplant Surgery and Laser Surgery for over 15 years here in Central New York. He served his residency at the University of Pennsylvania, Scheie Eye Institute, and completed his fellowship in Corneal Surgery at the University Iowa. He served as Assistant Chief of Ophthalmology at Schiei Eye Institute before moving to Syracuse in 1988 to join the faculty at SUNY Upstate Medical University as a cornea Specialist and co-chairman of medical student education. He is currently a Clinical Professor at Upstate Medical University. He attends the Cornea Clinic at Upstate and the VA Hospital, as well as, teaching residents surgical procedures.

REFRACTIVE EXPERIENCE

Dr. Weisenthal is a highly experienced refractive surgeon having performed the first LASIK in the area in 1997 (PRK in 1996). He was an investigator in the first multi center national study for the FDA on LASIK surgery sponsored through CRS Clinical Research. He is a founding member of Laserview of Central New York and has been performing refractive surgery for over 12 years. He is a fellowship trained corneal surgeon and has experience performing thousand of eye surgeries including cataract and corneal transplantation surgery. He has performed over 6,000 refractive procedures. His personal data show the 85% of patients see 20/20 and 99% see 20/40.

He is the only surgeon in central New York who has been accredited by the Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance, an independent organization that certifies the training and credentials of refractive surgeons. To maintain membership in the council the surgeon must perform a high volume of surgery will all results monitored by the council to ensure excellence by surpassing their rigorous standards. Dr. Woodcock Jr. completed his ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center, and was Chief Resident in 2004. He completed his internship at United Health Services Wilson Memorial Hospital in Binghamton, NY. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University after attending the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Boston College with a BA in Biology.
